Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step when you sign in, so your account stays protected even if someone learns your password. Recollect supports an authenticator app, email codes, and backup codes.

Click the gear icon and select **Settings**, then open the **Security** tab.

## Authenticator app

Under **Authenticator app**, click **Set up authenticator**. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as 1Password, Authy, or Google Authenticator, or enter the setup key manually. Enter the six-digit code from the app and click **Confirm & enable**.

## Email 2FA

Under **Email 2FA**, click **Enable email 2FA** to have Recollect email you a code when you sign in.

## Backup codes

When you turn on two-factor authentication, Recollect gives you a set of one-time **backup codes**. Save them somewhere safe so you can sign in if you lose access to your authenticator or email. You can create a new set at any time with **Regenerate**.

The next time you sign in, you will be asked for a code from your authenticator app, an emailed code, or a backup code.
