How to back up your notes automatically
Recollect can automatically back up your notes on a schedule to your connected Backblaze B2 storage. Each backup is a timestamped zip file, saved to a backups folder in your bucket, that you can re-import at any time.
Before you start
Automated backups require a connected Backblaze B2 account, the same storage used for file attachments. Connect it first in Settings → Files. For the connection steps, see attaching files to a note.
Turning on automated backups
Click the gear icon and select Settings, open the Files tab, and find Automated backups. Turn on Automatically back up my notes, then set the schedule:
- Frequency — Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
- Day — for a weekly schedule, pick the day of the week; for a monthly schedule, pick the day of the month (capped at 28 so every month has that day).
- Time of day — when the backup runs, in your own timezone.
Each run saves a timestamped zip of your notes and images to the backups folder in your bucket.
Backing up on demand
Click Back up now to create a backup immediately. The status beside the button shows when your last backup ran, or whether the last attempt failed.
Restoring from a backup
A backup is a standard Recollect export, so you restore it by importing the zip. Download the backup zip from your Backblaze B2 bucket, then import it with Import Notes. Re-importing is safe: notes that already exist are matched rather than duplicated. See importing notes for the steps.
Teams
On a team, backups are written to the team’s storage bucket, which the owner manages, in a folder namespaced to each person. Members can back up the notes they have access to when the owner allows member backups in the team settings.
